Journaling reads: Just like many of us, my parents are creatures of habit. Each morning they start their day with a cup of coffee, and the puzzles in the morning paper. Of course this meant that while we visited them, we too did the puzzles. My dad would get up at 6:00am, get the paper, cut and scan, and print each puzzle. On top of each Sudoku, he would date and write a personal note to each of us. Those notes were so dear and touching, and although he always wanted to be the winner for the day, when someone else won, he would graciously acknowledge that win, and usually state that he would be sure to win this days puzzle. I am not much for the word jumble, as I grew up with Bert doing it each and every morning, and gave up as a young girl, but the Sudoku and word search were more up my alley. Rachel, on the other hand loved the two word games and hated the Sudoku. My mom and Bert would do all three. The Sudoku were harder than the ones I usually do, but did manage to win a few days while there – in Sudoku, that is. On Bingo Tuesdays, we wouldn’t have time to do the puzzle, so once Bingo was over, we would come home, have lunch, and start the competition. I guess there is no wonder where I got my competitive nature and love of the game, any game!
