As seen in the July 2010 Artisan Notebook Just Write

Reach for the sky, but keep your feet on the ground.

Growing up I specifically remember having two very distinctive and unique ambitions.

When I was in middle school, I was certain I wanted to be a Haute Couture fashion designer. Never mind that I didn't know what the words even meant. I'd heard it on TV, read it in magazines and I wanted to be one! It seemed to me to be the pinnacle of fashion designs and I wanted to be the top.

When I was 15 years old, my parents bought me a ride on a glider for my birthday. From that day on, I was hooked on flying. Gone were the days of haute couture. Hello military uniforms! I would become a pilot, a fighter pilot. One of the first women to pilot an SR-71 top secret reconnaissance jets. An astronaut! I would go beyond the top of the stratosphere and into space.

I never fully accomplished either of these ambitions. I made a few outfits for myself, but discovered that buying from a store is faster and easier. And far cuter. I got my student pilots license, but gave up on a military career. I never made it to the top, I've yet to be beyond the stratosphere.

My feet are firmly planted on the ground now and I am a bit more realistic in my ambitions. I am a teacher. I teach English and Scrapbooking in Japan. I love what I do and deep down inside I'm happy that I am neither a fashion designer or a fighter pilot. Life is good just where I am.
