Image size for uploading

Hi everyone, I'm new here and also new to uploading files to the gallery. I finally managed to get one uploaded but it looks very small compared to others and yet if I try to send it any bigger I get a message that the file is to big. If anyone could help me with this I would really appriate it.

I'm using PSCS2 and sometimes the CS3 Beta version.

I'm on PSCS, so I'm not sure if there are any changes to how you do this, but here's how I do it:
1. I select File, Save for Web..
2. On the Image Size tab, you can change your size (I usually do 550-600), Apply
3. Under Quality, make adjustments (this will vary depending on your layers, etc) until the estimated file size in the bottom left hand corner is under 125kb
4. Save!

I usually save mine so it's around 600 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi.

Early in digital scrapping I was advised to first change the resolution to 72dpi, then change the width to 600 pixels. I try to keep my web jpg's under 100K, because many sites that allow you to submit for publication require a file size 100K or under.

with save for web using PSCS you dont need to save it in 72 DPI, just follow the instructions as per rlma, and you shouldnt have a problem... just make sure that you dont use these ones to print out your work as the quality will not be good enough.
I always save 3 ways - full PSD (pscs) file, web size (for posting) and an 8 x 8 flatten image for printing (cause I cant print out in 12 x 12)

Can I also suggest that you burn your full layouts to a disc at least every 3 mths or so, just for safety sake (crashes) and the health of your computer cause these files are big and if your been bitten by the bug, you will fill your hard drive quickly.....

Both methods for saving work equally well. I first save the PSD at the lowest compression jpg for print purposes jpg. Then do file/save for web. I did not know I could set the image size in this step, so thanks Rachel! Learn something every day.
