Default Let's Show Linda and Bob how much we care

I just got the following update from our precious friend Linda:

Monday, January

Bob has gotten weaker over the past 3 days. He's not been able to get food down beyond about 3 to 4 bites or a few sips of liquid. Today they did an upper GI, but the report doesn't show any great explanation of what's causing the problem. I missed talking to the surgeons (his primary doctors) this morning because they came in at 6:15am and I didn't get here until 7am. But from what the rehab doctor has explained and the rest of the team says, they're going to put in a PIC line and start him back on TPN (IV nutrition) since he's basically starving at this point, and also dehydrated. The good news is that his tongue is not infected with thrush and the problems he's been having with it are the result of being so critically ill for such a long time, poor nutrition and dehydration. Hopefully that'll resolve soon....especially if he can get some adequate nutrition and strength back. He feels like he's going backwards and getting weaker...he can feel it....but I keep reminding him o f how far he's come and that the doctors are watching and will figure out the next step to aid his recovery.

For all our local friends and family who've asked if there is anything that we could use...(besides prayer).....today they've made wireless internet access available in the waiting room right outside Bob's door on the 9th floor. It would be a wonderful help if anyone has a laptop with wireless access that I could borrow while we're here at the hospital. As I've mentioned before, the only computer for family use is in the CCU waiting room (which is very busy..and my time on it is limited to 10 minutes) or in the hotel lobby...but that one is only available between 7:30am and 10pm which are times when I"m here at the hospital. Anyway...it's just a thought, if any of you have an extra one you could loan us.

Please keep praying for Bob...it's heartbreaking to see him so weak.
Love,
Linda

We have been praying for Bob's recovery since the early part of December. Over that time we have seen God work many miracles. I'm praying those miracles continue. I'm also trusting that somehow or another Linda's request for a wireless laptop are going to be answered! What I thought we could do in the meantime is create some 'Get Well' and 'We Love you Layouts' for Linda and Bob so that when she does get that computer she and Bob will find all these wonderful layouts to cheer and encourage them.

So what do you say? Are you with me? Create a special layout for our friends, post it in the gallery and then link it here.

Great idea Debb! I'll get to it asap (which might be a while these days ) And yes, I thought Linda sounded a little discouraged in this update too, so time to help renew her courage and strength!

Here's my Lo for both of them! I had to "snag" Bob's photo from one of Linda's LOs - I hope she doesn't mind

I just saw this update, and thought I'd pass it on here. It seems like there is a LOT of prayer needed right now! I know all too well how frightening situations like this can be. Thanks ladies!

Tuesday, Jan. 23

Bob went down to radiology for a contrast study of his pancreatic situation and while there they increased the main drainage tube in size. I was waiting upstairs in his room and then heard a call over the intercom for a med team code in radiology.....it was for Bob.

He's now in CCU....(the critical care unit)
He got very lethargic, almost non-responsive and his blood pressure dropped following the procedure which is why the med team was called while he was still in radiology waiting to come back upstairs. They stabilized him and sent him to CCU a couple of hours ago.
A good amount of pus drained out and they believe that this stirred up enough bacteria to cause bacteremia in his blood stream which made him instantly very, very sick.
Besides the infection, he is also in pain and not breathing well. While I'm typing this they're getting him onto a C-PAP machine, which they'll try for a couple of hours. Otherwise they have to put him back on a ventilator.

His surgical team feel that this will be a temporary set-back and they'll be watching him around the clock.
They were tentatively thinking of surgery on this Thursday, but will now have to re-evaluate everything.

Bobby, Dorene and Christopher are here with me now, and until they got here the hospital chaplain sat with me. They're with Bob right now so that I could take a moment to get this email out to all of you. I think at least Christopher will spend the night with me tonight...I don't want to be alone right now.

Please, please cover Bob in urgent prayer.
I'm very frightened, but trying to stay strong and encouraging for Bob while leaning on the Lord for support.

Love,
Linda
