Default Howdy from Texas!

I feel like a newbie since it's been so long!!!

I've finally finished 3 years of school while working fulltime - which left no time for scrapping. But I'm done with school and will soon have a brand new diploma that's says Masters of Science in Accounting with 4.0 Honors!!!!!!!!!!!

Now's the time to get back into scrapping - will have to be for fun since I had to give up my CT duties when I started school.

Wow, congratulations! What does a Masters of Science in Accounting mean for you? New job? Will you teach? Happy scrapping, good to hear from you!

Pam - main thing it means is security when I retire from this company, which I originally planned for this year. I've delayed that decision and am looking at what opportunities are available within the company. In fact, I talked to the Controller briefly this morning.

But with an accounting background, I will have more options and will not be tied to a geographic region as much as I am currently with a chemistry degree.

Good for you, Maggie! Now we can do more genealogy, too! We just finished fiscal closing at MSU and the new term starts in just a few days. Fun, fun, fun! Welcome home.

Susan - I have my genealogy software installed on my newest laptop (18 months old) but it hasn't gotten much of a workout. And I want to dig into the 1940 census - most of my parents' generation and before will be easier to find.

Maggie, the index is supposed to be complete at Ancestry and it is free there for at least the next year. They wildcard searches will really help - especially the * in the middle! It was way cool to find my Momma and Daddy on there.

They misspelled my dad's family name - LOL! Found Mom's with no problem. I need to start transferring some of those census citations to Master Genealogist. I'm really really trying to document everything. I just had someone on Ancestry ask me about the birth date of one of my ancestors and I have no clue where I found it.

I know Susan knows this, but just because you find something in a family tree, don't take it at face value. I've gotten some really bad information in my tree that way and I'm still digging it all out. I want at best a primary source, or at least a secondary source such as census data. I have very common family names in my lineage - SANDERS is about as common as they come - add SMITH, HOLMES, WELLS, even SLAY is more common than I thought. At least on my grandmother's side, there are more uncommon family names but repeating first names - gah!
