I didn't keep a list last year -- I tried to use Goodreads and I just didn't keep up with it -- but I'm going to keep one this year: 2011 Book List. I've even signed up for a "Read 100 books in 2011" challenge, although realistically I'll be happy if I get through 40 books by the end of the year.

I'm kind of a shallow reader and I don't read a lot of nonfiction -- when I do, it is an occasional biography or an historical event.
Thank you for the links, those are cool resources! And I don't think you are a shallow reader-is there really such a thing as a "shallow reader?"

Yes, Debb...I've read all the Sneaky-Pie Brown mysteries. Love them too. I especially like the notes the cat always writes at the end of the book.

Default What a great thread

I too am an avid reader and read every night before I try to go the sleep - right now I am reading historical novels but will try pretty much anything. I go to the library every 4 weeks and take out 8 - 10 books and have usually read all of them by the time I have to get them back. That is apart from reading dozens of magazines for work. I am a publishers rep and often get leads from other magazines than our own.

Most of the time I am in bed by 9.30 and read until 11.30 or so (unless I am at the tail end of a book) and really enjoy doing so.

I'm a fast reader, but I've never read Gone With The Wind in a day! LOL! And I've read it quite a few times. Stacey, you ARE a speed reader. That's not to say I haven't read a book in a day, just not that particular one.

I started reading a lot when I was in 5th grade and lightning hit our TV set and we couldn't afford to replace or repair it. I really didn't start tracking what I read until the late 1990's . . . and started recording it on my blog in 2007.

Here's the link to my lists on my blog:

Oh Cheryl that is SO cool!! I wish that I had kept a list like that!! There is no way I could go back and re-trace the books I've read and pin-point the year but I think I might be able to cull a list from last year. What a great idea!!

I just remembered that I did a 2-page spread on books/reading, back in October. Here's the link to one of them: http://www.digitalscrapbookartisangu...6&ppuser=77370

And it's funny, 'cause I'll think, oh, I just read such-and-such book, and I'll look on the list and it will have been 5 years past. LOL

BOOKS I'VE READ
When I was in third grade I received "The Trumpet of the Swan" from my aunt and uncle for Christmas. I started reading it in late afternoon while we were still at my grandparent's house, and I read a little after we got home. When I went to bed, I realized that I had read nearly all of the book, and something inside of me blossomed. My next goal was to finish a chapter book in one day. I did that before Christmas vacation ended.

Every Christmas and birthday I received Trixie Belden books and my sister received Nancy Drew books. It became very common for me to finish one of these books in a single day, and I still am able to read fast. I'm not a speed reader, per se, like the ones you see that run their hand down the page and then the next and then the next. But I am a rapid processor and I have very quick hand-to-eye coordination. When I was 19 I took tests to join the Army, and I scored in the 97th percentile for hand-to-eye coordination. Alannah has the same skills, but - like Monk - it is both a blessing and a curse.

I don't buy many books because they offer so little TIME, even if they are a good read. So the library is my friend.

I loved reading all these messages!

Thinking as a girl I read all the Nancy Drew books.
I have never been a fast reader.

What's different now and then......... I read more now.
My kids are all grown and gone on their own. Do I have lots of time... no, I don't. I am always busy. I play with Teddy Bears and they keep me busy - now I am into drawing them.
I still love the mysteries.
I have read all the books by Rita Mae Brown with Sneaky Pie Brown; Lilian Jackson Braun; Jan Karon; Janet Evanovich, Donna Andrews, Iris Johnansen, Carol O'Connell and many others.

My sister-in-law gave me Sue Grafton books P thru T for Christmas. I hope to catch up on her series this year.

I am working my way thru the series of J A Jance, Leslie Meier, Joanne Fluke, James Patterson, and few others. I like to read books in order in a series.

I have a ereader, but I also have books, too. I must say the ereader is easier on my hands. I have it set up so I don't have to hold it. Also, I mainly read every day while I bike.

2011 January Reading List:
Ricochet by Sandy Brown
M Is for Malice by Sue Grafton
N is for Noose by Sue Grafton
Taking the Fifth by J A Jance
Valentine Murder by Leslie Meier
Ghost in Trouble by Carolyn Hart
In the Company of Others by Jan Karon
The Pawn by Steven James
Everywhere That Mary Went by Lisa Scottoline

February Reading List:
O Is for Outlaw by Sue Grafton
P Is for Peril by Sue Grafton
Naked Came the Phoenix by Navada Barr and others
The Ghost and Mrs. McClure by Alice Kimberly
Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye by Victoria Laurie
Death On Demand by Carolyn Hart
Improbable Cause by J A Jance
Apple Turnover Murder by Joanne Fluke
