Aaarrgghh!!!!

I was working on a layout when we had a power surge. I was in the process of saving the layout (the last of several saves on this LO). Now I can't open it. (Where's the crying smilie - is that an oxymoron? - when you need one?) Does anyone know how I can recover it? I use PSP 9. I may have to reconstruct it...

Oh no! - try getting completely out and back in. I have had this happen before - fortunately I was talking to someone on Hello and had what I had done so far to work from - as a guide

Sorry I can't help with that, but surely if you saved it before the power surge, you would think you could at least recover that much of it....I know how frustrating it is to loose something you've been working on....I get frustrated when my PSP XI crashes right in the middle of something I'm doing and I forgot to save the last 10 steps....

Fran - if she was in the middle of a save, it probably corrupted the file.

Maggie and Fran, I was in the middle of the save. I'm pretty sure the file was corrupted. I get a message saying there was an error while opening the file. <sigh>. Fortunately, it was a fairly simple layout and I should be able to reproduce it without too much trouble. I had worked a long time on it though... Oh well.

I know how you feel. I have a LO that I cannot find. I have the 72 dpi version but not the original. I did write down the products used so that will help but it's just the idea of it. It's the same with knitting. I HATE to ripout and redo.

Carol - I have done this more than once. It's bad enough when I lose it because I forget to save, but when I lose it when I'm in the middle of a save, that's downright aggravating.

Not sure if this is the same in PSP 9, I have 10, but you could try!

Go to file>Preferences>AutosaveSettings
click on enable autosave and set it to how often you want it to save

this will save your work automatically to a temp folder on your main drive
The default is:
c:>documents and settings>your folder> (you'll want to right click>properties>on the general tab enable read hidden files)>localsettings>temp>CorelPaintShopProTempFil es
You can view these files by going to the location through PSP
Just remember to delete these once in a while because they do take up some space. Using this feature also slows down PSP a little, but it is sooo worth it

Lightning-grounding equipment failed at a Memphis substation Sunday evening, causing outages for customers of both Memphis Light, Gas & Water Division and the Tennessee Valley Authority.
"We have never seen anything else like this before," said MLGW spokesman Chris Stanley. The equipment failure caused a drop of 60 percent of the voltage throughout the county and the effects rippled as far away as Nashville, particularly in businesses and industries with sensitive computers. Customers felt the temporary outage that lasted for about five seconds around 7:28 p.m. Sunday.
On Monday, MLGW workers cranked up their four-wheelers and six-wheelers and drove along the power lines to see if they could find any additional trouble besides the lightning arrester that failed at the Whitten Road Substation just north of Interstate 40.
Stanley said the workers failed to find any other source for the problem. The lightning arresters sit on a row of poles and look like stacks of clay disks. If lightning strikes, Stanley said the equipment captures the lightning and grounds it.
"The voltage dipped 60 percent all over the county from Downtown to Collierville," he said. There was no lightning in the area. In the past, even if the equipment failed, Stanley said, there's never been such a sudden drop before like the one Sunday. No more problems are expected even with high temperatures predicted to hit later this week.
When a major power surge, like the low voltage surge that hit Memphis Sunday, occurs in the shared 17,000 miles of transmission line, TVA has to draw electricity from other areas to make up for the lost power, said John Moulton, TVA news bureau senior manager.
"Memphis Light, Gas & Water is supplying power to a very wide area," said Moulton. "When that power drops off, it has to be made up from somewhere."
That "somewhere" reached as far as the state capital, causing large businesses and industries to operate at only 95 percent. Sensitive equipment and computers requiring specific amounts of energy failed as a result.

Wow. Dont you just hate when that happens. Its too bad you lost that layout but Kryss gave a wonderful suggestion for the future. Just in case!
