Digital scrapbooking affords us the opportunity to express ourselves creatively in unique ways that are often not available to those who like to paper scrap. Our photo-editing programs often allow us to become digital artists. Instead of wielding a paintbrush and canvas our medium is mouse and screen. This month's issue of the Artisan Notebook takes an in-depth look at creating layouts with various painterly effects that can be achieved by using our photo editing programs. This issue will have your eyes popping at the beauty and inspiration of the layouts while reaching for your own mouse to replicate the ideas.

We have several talented designers and artists featured in this month's issue including Feature designer Madame Mim, Lily Designs, Lena Bradenburg, RhandiOh, and Evitangel. In addition we have more than 40 layout artists who have contributed inspirational layouts and how-to instructions to inspire and teach you about creating painterly style layouts. This is sure to be an issue that you return to again and again.

This month's FREE GIFT was created by Dee Bee Designs and is a beautiful set of layered elements, word art and frames that coordinate with the January Guild kit, "Whispers in an Oriental Garden." The issue also includes a FREE set of masks to be used in conjunction with one of the tutorials as well as links to some wonderful freebies that are available on the web.

With over 50 pages of instruction and inspiration this issue is sure to inspire you in your layout design!

This month we focus on a new up and coming style of digital scrapbook layout: composite style layouts. This style of layout draws on the creative elements of digital photo montage artists and lends a wonderfully new creative twist to the artistry we use to preserve our favorite photos and memories. We explore this style of layout with guest artists Stephanie Kruelle, Sarah Cornish and other talented scrappers.

Meet Irene Alexeeva, our spotlight designer and her talented Creative Team as they showcase their beautiful composite style layouts.

Travel to an action-packed soccer game with our Photography Clinic contributor, Nancy Morin, as she discusses the use of shutter speeds.

A free gift from Dee Bee Designs, as well as our regular articles, Hot Trend, LifeLines, the Scrapbook Police, Color Inspiration, Learn by Lifting and Happy Endings round out the last of the goodies in this issue. Over 40 pages to inspire and educate you!

Fantasy: The creative imagination; unrestrained fancy; an imagined event or condition fulfilling a wish. This month the focus of the Artisan Notebook is on fantasy themed layouts. One of the greatest delights of digital scrap-booking is that we are not limited by our photos as they were taken. Using the tools of our photo-editing programs we can take the reality of our photos and turn them into fantastical expressions of what could be. The only limitation is our imagination.

With our theme this month being fantasy who better to be our featured designer than Lorie Davison? We are just thrilled to feature her work and that of her team to provide us with some amazing inspiration. We are also excited to be able to share the talents of two wonderful artists who create fantasy photo illustrations; Maria Kostoff and Joanne Paquette. There work is sure to inspire you!

Our monthly contributors offer up a wide variety of inspiration and ideas. Featured articles include Susan Reynold's Heritage Layout feature, "Lifelines," Christie Franchioni's "Just Write," and Debb Cozzi's "Color Inspirations" and "Learn by Lifting." Our photo clinic this month features some valuable tips on using masks to create cloned images and extractions.

This month the Artisan Notebook includes a FREE GIFT created by Dee Bee Designs: Decorated Woodland Overlay Set
