My brother, Pete, has been in Iraq for about a year now. We got word today that he was severely injured this morning by an IED. Another guy in his patrol was killed, 2 critical enough that they can't be moved, and my brother is on his way to Germany, and has lost his right leg below the knee (or possibly will lose it, not totally clear on that right now.) If you would please pray for him and my sis-in-law and neice...as well as the rest of our family. He left for training just days after Joey's funeral, so this has all been a really tough stretch for the family.
We will be putting updates as we get them on our website here (http://www.chrisandkara.com).
Thanks ladies.

Updated to say that there really isn't an update. Still don't know much. The sergeant in contact with my parents says he's en route to Germany and lost his leg below the knee. Walter Reed Hospital says he's still in Iraq and lost his leg above the knee. No one really knows anything for sure, I guess, including info about his overall condition or what exactly happened. Everyone else seems to be taking it well...me not so much. But I'm trying to not worry. God's got it in his hands.
Thanks again, ladies.

Oh, Kara! I know I didn't post to the Joey thread over at DSP, but I read the entire story from beginning to end and cried many tears for your sweet little angel. Your family has been through so much and I pray for your continued strength as you face this new challenge. I also pray that you receive news soon and that God will extend His healing power on your brother.

Chris has just updated the website with the latest, so check there for details. Pete is in Germany, out of ICU already, and has talked to his wife. He did confirm the loss of his leg below the knee and considers himself very lucky to be alive.
Thank you so much for your prayers thus far. We appreciate them very much.

Oh what a relief. I have been thinking about this all day...I am so relieved to see that he has been in contact with his wife and that he is doing okay. I'm sure it will be a rough road of recovery for him, but he is obviously strong, as is your family...you'll all make it through. (((((big hugs))))) Did you skip work today? C'mon...don't let me down on this one...LOL! :)

yes...stayed home because of all the phone calls, etc. Now I feel bad because 20 teachers missed work today at our school alone. :( At least my 1st period is full of good kids, and they did the assignment anyway, even though the lesson plans didn't make it to the sub until later. Yay for me having the weeks assignments on the board and being prepared.

My parents are going to be interviewed this afternoon, so I went to the website of the TV station to see what other information they had, and I came across this story: http://www.kake.com/home/headlines/5988851.html My brother wasn't specifically mentioned here, but it is this incident. The guy they mentioned as being critical is now in stable condition. Might help you pray for these other people as well.

Kara - I'm glad that y'all have heard from your brother directly, or at least his wife has. I hope that he is stable enough to return to the States shortly. I know it will be easier on all of you to know when he is on US soil.

Kara just saw this, so sorry to hear about your brother. He Will be in my prayers will you be. He will be given the best of care.
Its so tough on all those men being so far away from loved ones, let alone on the families left to worry for them.... I know that having a son in the air force, its always a worry were they will end up....I hope they bring home all the men soon....

Well, it seems like we continue to get mixed information. Now we're being told that they dont' know when he'll be transferred to Walter Reed. We've also been told that he has a chest tube. After Joey, Chris and I have the natural instinct to ask all kinds of questions, but I guess fortunately the rest of the family hasn't experienced that...so we don't know why he has the chest tube, if this is a new development, or what this means for his prognosis. Another side-effect of our experience is that I tend to fear the worst...which I know I shouldn't do, especially if I say that I'm trusting God to take care of him. So as you pray for Pete, pray for me...I think I'm just not as trusting of God as I should be at this point.
I appreciate each and every one of you ladies, and I'm so glad to know you and consider you all friends.
Oh yes...if you want to see an interview a tv station did with my parents and sis-in-law, there is a link on our website. I think Chris is in the process of updating it now...but one of the previous links actually leads there anyway, there's just a video there now, along with the short blurb that was there before.
Thank you all.

Kara honey I am so sorry to hear this news, yet thankful that he has survived. Please know that we will be praying for him and for all of the incredible men and women that put themselves on the line everyday in service to their country. Your brother is a real hero. Please tell him when you talk to him that we honor and esteem his service and sacrifice.
Great big hugs are coming your way my friend....

Oh Kara! I so understand how frustrating mixed info can be! We are the same way about drilling Dr's and we learned to do that during Rachel's problems at birth!
Remember we are human! God understands our fears and doubts and takes care of us in His way!
Continued prayers for you all!

Kara...I am still holding you and Pete and the rest of your family up in prayer!!! I am glad that you heard from him, via your Sister in Heart and it sounds as if he has a positive attitude, which is awesome!!! It is so frustrating to not be able to be there with him and to be getting info that conflicts. (((((((((((HUGS KARA)))))))))))))))

I am continuing to pray for you and your family. I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you. I'm sure your family appreciates all the questions you are asking to get the much-needed answers.

hugs my friend,
Its hard to trust when you feel like everything is going wrong. But the word tells us "All things work together for GOOD for those who love God, and for those who are called according to his purpose". Its hard making that 'head' knowledge 'heart' knowledge. I pray for peace for you and your family and that the Lord will remind you how Mighty he is.
Message me if you wanna talk

Hi, Kara! I saw your blog entry yesterday. It sounds like Pete is in good hands, and though he's in pain, he is getting great care. Any new updates?
Your family, Pete and the other soldier from his unit continue to be in my prayers.
Any news? I have been thinking about you and your family all day!

((((KARA!)))) So wonderful to hear that he's coming back to the States! I'm sure you all cannot wait to see him! (I know my family is already planning a coming home party for my cousin who is coming back from Afghanistan in two months.) Such a blessing that his prognosis is good and if he's like most men, it's a very good sign that he's being cranky with the nurse ;)
You and your family continue to be in my prayers.
What wonderful news! I know you and your family are pleased that he is coming back to the US. Keeping you in my prayers!

Kara, I just saw this. You family and especially your brother are in my prayers. Your brother is a real hero. There is a new hospital just built in Texas (Houston I think) through private donations just for rehabilitation for our injured soldiers. You might want to look into that for your brother. I heard about this through the Imus in the morning radio show. I know what you are going through. My son is a Marine vet and served 2X in Iraq and 1X in Afghanistan. It is I think harder on those that stay behind. Hugs and thanks for the updates.
