Picasa vs. ACDSee

I've been reading about ACDSee here and at DST. I currently use Picasa - primarily as a photo viewer, especially for my RAW files. Is ACDSee any better than Picasa? I haven't really gotten into all the tagging with Picasa but I know the capability is there.

Honestly dont know anything but do know 1 thing from what other people are saying. They say you cant view png files in Picasa. Or they dont show up right.

I don't know, I never really used Picassa. I had it...but I didn't use it. That should tell you something...I do actually use ACDSee. But really, I think the best place to ask is over at Digiscrapinfo, because they research this stuff. Plus, ACDSee has a free 30 day trial, so you can see if it is easier for you or not...I really can't tell you, because everyone is different. However, if you want to be able to tag multiple categories for one element at once, if you want to keep your folders the way they are already, but still see all of your blue striped ribbons, if you want to be able to find your blue striped ribbon and then immediately drag and drop it into your scrapping program, then ACDSee is a great choice. Plus...there's a way to keep track of what you've used on a layout...I haven't looked into it yet, but I've heard talk of it. :)

One note...I know that Heidi over at DSI did say that you CAN view png files in Picasa, but there's a setting you have to change in order to do so.

I had the free trial of ACDsee and enjoyed it. I tried picasa too, but I couldn't find a capability there for sub folders which is crucial to how I would need to organize my files. I hear a lot of folks love acdsee and its features. However, I've seen nothing but complaints about their customer support. Every techie site I've been to with reviews people say that it's terrible and they never get a response back. So I don't know. I'd like to get the program but I'm running out of space on this computer so until I can afford an external hard drive, it's definitely out of the question.

I'm Loving ACDsee Maggie! it was a huge job putting all the supplies into the catagories I wanted but well worth the effort.
One feature has me really excited , and that Im just getting to grips with is the basket, you drop your item into the basket as you use them and can print out a report with all the details or just copy into your photoshop notes. When your doing loads of layers with elements from different kits it can be a real time saver know what stuff you got from where......
I havnt had any issues at the moment, but only had it for 2 mths....so havnt had to ask for techy support....

I don't know about their customer support, I've never tried to use it...i use Heidi and Connie...I haven't had a question they haven't been able to answer. And if they don't know, they research it and find it quickly (they try and respond to a question within 2 hours)...and then blog about it so that everyone can know. They are a great source of information.

I had Picasa but I didn't really like it. Can't really recall why but it just didn't work well for me & I never used it much. I love ACDSee though & use it all the time.

I haven't had any customer support problems with it but I go through Heidi & Connie at their Digi Scrap Info blog.

I know a lot of people are using ACDSee for organizing their digi kits. It seems to be the popular program to use right now. I use a program called IMatch. In checking out reviews it seems some people love ACDSee and some people hate it. Some people love IMatch some people hate it. There are also other various programs on the market that do similar things. I think it is all personal opinion and sometimes it is just what you are used to. Since I already have IMatch and have spent hours cataloging my digi supplies, I don't have any desire to switch. But if you are curious why don't you try the 30 day trial. That way you can compare it to Picassa and see if you like it.

Well who needs tech support when Heidi and Connie are there to help. Take the plunge and see if the 30 day trial and see. If you unsure I would only take maybe a few kits to see if you like it before you do them all.
