I need a good software recommendation please....that does this:

1) does an incremental backup (searches for and backs up only those files which have been added or changed)

2) does so in a way so that you can still work from the external hard drive...
This means that I don't want a program like "Back up my PC" which bundles everything together and you need to use that particular software to restore the files to your system...you can't work from your external that way.

It's a fine program for security backups but I want to be able to have my external hard drive files look exactly like my C drive files and be able to use them from the external when necessary.

3) free would be great....http://www.digishoptalk.com/boards/images/smilies/smile.gif...but I'm willing to pay for the right program.

THANKS!!!

Linda, I use GoodSync (http://www.goodsync.com/) . It is free and it seems to do what I want it to--back up the files that have changed since the last time I backed up. It is fast and you can set up each directory that you want to do as a job so that next time you just click the job you want to run. (I still am crazy paranoid and check and re-check my arrows to make sure they are pointing in the right direction and those thumbs.db files change all the time and always make me freak out a bit....I can not have changed that many files....but so far it has worked like a charm).
