Do you scrap 300ppi or 200ppi?

Very curious...what resolution do you prefer for scrapping? I'm not interested in the layout size, just your preferred ppi.

Some days it feels like "pounds per inch!"

lol @ Pounds per inch! I dont have a preference really. I scrap 300 with the stuff from this site and 200 from some other sites. When I am creating papers I generally create with 200dpi because thats the size of my brushes. 300dpi is suppose to best for printing though....

I don't see any difference in 200 ppi and 300 ppi when it comes to printing so I scrap in 200 ppi. My laptop really bogs dfown with PSP when I try to scrap at 300 ppi.

And yes, I have to convert the papers and elements to 200 ppi and 67% size when I bring them into my layout.

I do the same as Amy. I scrap at the same resolution of the kit I'm using. I think I usually create in 200 but one kit I made was 300.

So can you really tell the different between 200 & 300 when you print though. My understanding it was better to scarp 300 cause of the printing issue .

I tend to scrap at 200 ppi - due to very slow response otherwise from my laptop! I print my pages also and I have never been displeased with how they look! Well, resolution wise, anyway - design wise a whole different story! :rolleyes:

I have told by two local printing companies, FedEx and UPStore that only there is little, if ANY, difference in printing 8x8 at 200ppi. I was just curious what others were doing, and what they have been advised to do.

I scrap whatever the kits are. I just have to be careful when using 200 kits with 300 templates and vice versa. :) I haven't printed yet, so I don't know what kind of difference it will make, if any.

I scrap 300 cause that is mostly what I have in my arsenal. Lots of ppl scrap 200 and I've heard some pretty reputable people say that they look FINE at 200. :)

I scrap at what ever the kit was made at. I hate having to resize papers and elements. I do find though that the 300ppi takes up so much space on my laptop that I remove the psd files to my external hd as soon as I am through with them.

Boy can I tell you we debated this issue when we were putting the standards together for the Guild. Now I'm going to confess something....but if anybody asks, you didn't hear it here! ;) :D Personally I think there is very little difference when printing 8x8 200 dpi and 300 dpi. However, I have noticed some difference in my photos (not kit supplies, backgrounds or elements) when I print 12x12......the deterioration in quality between 200 and 300 at 12x12 I only see in the photos, not the backgrounds or elements.

So, why did the Guild go with 300 dpi? Is it because we LOVE paying for extra bandwidth and storage? Or we LOVE tying up our customers who are on dial up with hours and hours of download time? Maybe because we LOVE the thought of all of our friends getting frustrated when their computers bog down trying to manipulate the MASSIVE file size of each layout? :eek:

NOPE!!!!! Believe me the are so many times when I wish we were offering 200 dpi, it would make all of our lives easier. So, why did we go with 300? Because, like it or not, it has become industry standard and as a site just starting out we just couldn't afford to have something out there that could 'ding' our reputation right off the bat. Sooooo.....300 dpi it was and is.

Am I being too brutally honest for my own good? ........ Nah!! ....... I'll just leave at this....200 or 300 The GUILD PRODUCTS ARE THE BEST!! :D

Fair enough explanation, Debb...thanks for posting the DSAG rationale. If I were in your shoes, I'd go for the "industry standards," as well...but I don't know who is judging those standards ;-) I really don't need to know! I'm a very happy camper!

Almost every other single site out there is 300, so it does make using multiple kits from multiple sites easier and using templates. But I do resize to 200 cause otherwise, PSCS2 gets so bogged down I am screaming at the screen, "HURRY UP, PLLEEEEEASSSSSEE!!!" Remember I am not known for my patience ... lol!

I also created an action that does the resize for me, - actually, does anyone here know how to write scripts? Or have a tut to show how? Would make it easier to do all open files at one time, rather than one at a time!

But I do agree with you the kits here are beautiful!!!

I wrote an action and use PS Automate/Batch function to resize from 300 to 200. It pops up and asks me what to do with the jpg files, but I can handle that! I also use a script from AVBros, Collector, that puts all opened files into a new document. So that's how I handle the conversions.

I got so fustrated with my last PC that I jettisoned it, I felt like doing it litteraly on many occassion because of the slowness. Scrapmel - I can only wonder that you said PLEASE at all!! 200 or 300 hmmm, I was told that 200 is fine and I tend to use that but reading Debbs comments re photos I'm not so sure now, some of my photos look different so may change to 300. Since upgrading my PC to a whopping 200 plus memory so that my PS7 works like a dream now. Unfortuantly the new pc came with Vista - but that is a whole new story. Also came with wireless eveything so the mouse and keyboard have a mind of their own. If I just typed this at my normal speed (which isn't fast) there would be half the letters missing and also words strung together, now I type every working day so I know my typing skills are not that bad!! I've had to edit this as I'm typing - soooo frustrating, seriously thinking of jettisoning ths keyboardalso, areadd switchedd to my old mouse. (see what I mean looks like looads of typos) :mad:

Oh just got my Memory Makers mag and Ronee mentions how to 'make sure you set your ppi to 300'. Makes you realize how much a disadvantage of using 200 is going to be, all new digi scrappers are hearing is '300, 300, 300'.

I think I am with many others in scrapping whatever resolution the kit is made in. Yes, it does slow down my computer, but not enough to make me throw it out the window. :)

I scrap whatever the kit is...............which is always 300 -- since I'm so busy with all the fabulous kits here at the guild, I don't have time to do anything else!!!!

TIP: I can't explain this...........but I had problems with my computer slowing down, PSE freezing, etc. -and this was BEFORE 300dpi kits............

About one year ago...........I ditched Norton, etc...........and went with Panda Antivirus, Firewall, etc................

MY COMPUTER RUNS SO MUCH BETTER............even with 300 dpi...........I get VERY LITTLE spyware..................

I'm truly shocked but that's the only difference.................

???? By the way- I bought it online for $15 .............

Oh yes...Norton is a big huge hog of resources. Its about the worst one out there. Most computer techs will get rid of Norton and give you something else. My husband gives customers AVG Free...because its free for home use (businesses/corps have to pay), and it is every bit as good as any other out there. Good tip, Donna!
