Im in serious need of both tonight.... the doctor just took of a quarter of my big toe and with NO needles to numb it!!
I stubb it about 4mth ago splitting the nail, took a couple weeks to heal and I didnt think there was a problem until last week when it started to hurt real bad, its been keeping me up at nightly lately and yesterday I couldnt wear shoes (at work great look running around in socks!) thought I had an ingrown toe nail, so off I trot to the docs.
He takes one look, jumps me up onto the bed, takes his instruments of pain and whips of the nail, without even a wink and a nob, pus starts pouring out like a volcano! He hums & yahs... goes what did you stubb your toe on, told him I couldnt remember and he says it must have been wood cause I have got a huge junk of it embedd & that it has rotted and infected the toe. So he grabs some sort of ditch digger and scapel and begins to slice of hunks off my toe!! Im grabbing the walls just about putting claw marks in the plaster, and he's telling me that Im so brave doing this without any numbing, like he ASKED if i wanted any!! then he has the audacity to say in a cheery voice, there you go Love nothing to it :( I asked him if he had learnt his technique at war camps, cause he was really good at it...
Then he tells me that the nail bed has been killed and the nail will never grow properly, Guess my dreams are shattered forever of becoming a foot model:D :D Looks like a massive bomb caused a crater on my toe, Its only got a little bit of nail left ..sniff ....and its throbbing like some tom tom drum...
I walked out of the surgery and DH is standing there and at this point, I let out a wail and the tears started flowing, I think I was a in little shock . I wasn't expecting that!!
sorry ladies, feeling sorry for myself and my toe!! Its so petty in the scheme of things but I want some Chocolate....sniff, sniff.......
Ps to anyone that was eating when reading this..Sorrrryyyyyy

Wendy - that's HORRIBLE!!!! In the US, you would have had about 20 shots before they ever touched the toe. Of course then when the anesthetic wears off the shot sites throb, but there you go.
Did he give you some antibiotics to ward off any infection from him slicing off your toe???

Oh, my GOODNESS, Wendy! Your experience sounds like the Spanish Inquisition. Maggie was right, AND in the US you'd probably sue the doctor and retire early!
PS: Your account of the event was sooooo cleverly written! Hope that it heals quickly, and maybe you could design a new toenail ring ;-)

Yes I do believe you had a little shock there...................With my first child, I had an Emergency C-section and they started cutting in a HOT SPOT where the medicine never *took*-- I was telling them * I can feel that*--they said- NO, I think you just feel pressure...........
Finally I begged them to put me to sleep.................
You can have ALL THE CHOCOLATE YOU WANT!!!
( uhhh.........does your story sound like a scrapbook page???

Donna - with all that great journaling - I think Wendy does have a scrapbook page here... of course we may not be able to look at the pics - unless it's of a bandaged toe.
I'm so sorry you had to go threw this without warning. No wonder I dont like doctors. Jezz that was just wrong of the doctor. Will rember this if I ever stumb my poor foot.
Tossing a bag of dove chocolate your way. Enjoy and hope your toe is feeling bit better.

Oh Dear Wendy!!!! And if that's not bad enough, you now have to walk around on your "surgery" site!!! And there's about a gazillion nerves in our feet and toes...OW OW OW!!! I feel your pain!!!
I just baked a chocolate cake....which I will eat it in your honor! teeheee!!! ;)
I was thinking it's going to hurt to sit and scrap too as your toe swells - you need to keep it elevated. Propped up on the couch (or in bed) reading trashy novels, watching TV and eating bon bons....*giggle*. But I just can't imagine that's you...I think you're going to be thinking about how to scrap an awesome layout about this experience (hopefully without the pictures!) You've got most of your journaling done already!! Are you planning to take Stacey's class?? This is just the sort of thing that would get her grinning!

Jo - I had the knee replacement last year - and it's not that bad - really!!! At least they knock you out for the surgery - unlike poor Wendy!
The rehab was what was painful for me - because when I was in the hospital I had good drugs!

Oh, Wendy, I'm still cringing at this!! I just can't even imagine!!!
Hey, did you know that places that put on acryllic finger nails sometimes will do acryllic toe nails too? If there's enough area of the nail left to attach the acryllic too, you might be able to get a fake toe nail. You'd have to have it redone once a month, but they might be able to make it look natural. A friend of mine had her big toe nail done with acryllic once when she had an incredibly bad case of nail fungus. The doctor removed her entire toe nail, but once enough was back to attach the fake to, she did it so she could wear flip flops in the summer.
You may have a career as a foot model after all!! :)
