The Digital Scrapbook Artisan Guild Academy… Class Descriptions

Introduction to Adobe Photoshop: This four week class is designed to teach the student how to utilize the photo editing program Adobe Photoshop to create digital scrapbook layouts. The goal of this class is to provide the student with the technical know-how that will unleash their creative potential. This class is oriented specifically toward digital scrap-bookers and will not only teach the student how to utilize the tools in this program but will also teach them how to use the many digital scrapbook products available in the market today in conjunction with this program. The focus of the class is helping students learn how to use this program to express themselves creatively through their digital scrapbook layouts.

Introduction to Corel's Paint Shop Pro: This four week class is designed to teach the student how to utilize the photo editing program Corel’s Paint Shop Pro to create digital scrapbook layouts. The goal of this class is to provide the student with the technical know-how that will unleash their creative potential. This class is oriented specifically toward digital scrap-bookers and will not only teach the student how to utilize the tools in this program but will also teach them how to use the many digital scrapbook products available in the market today in conjunction with this program. The focus of the class is helping students learn how to use this program to express themselves creatively through their digital scrapbook layouts.

Introduction to Layout Design: This six week course is an in-depth study in the art of layout design. Students will study how to utilize all of the different elements of graphic design to create their own artistic layouts. The focus of this class will be learning how to use these design elements to create layouts that have artistic merit, are emotionally satisfying and effectively communicate the layout artist’s stories. Topics that are covered include space, unity, visual structure, rhythm, line, shape, contrast, repetition, alignment, balance, texture and color. Each of these design elements will be studied in depth as the student learns to utilize them in ways that give them greater freedoms in their artistic expression. Pre-requisites: Students must have a working knowledge of their photo-editing program.

Introduction to Typography: Typography is the composition of printed material from movable type; literally it can mean the ‘art’ of the word. Learning how to utilize typographic principles in your scrapbook layouts is an essential skill set to creating layouts that have both visual power as well as emotional content. This six week course is an in-depth study in the art of typography. The focus of the class will be learning what typographic principles are and how they can be used effectively in scrapbook layouts. In addition to learning about these principles students will also learn about the different font families, how to combine different fonts effectively, how to utilize the look of fonts to reflect the emotional content of journaling, how to create titles that have visual impact and how to utilize digital scrapbook alphas. Pre-requisites: Students must have a working knowledge of their photo-editing program.

Color Theory for the Digital Scrapbook Layout: This in-depth six-week course teaches traditional color theory and how to best apply it to your digital scrapbook layouts. This class will educated the digital scrapbooker about color concepts to help create stunning pages filled with color and emotional content. Included in this class is information regarding monitor and printer calibration information.

Introduction to Layout Style Classes: The Guild Academy offers a series of four-week classes that will focus on specific styles of scrapbook layouts. These classes will study the distinctives of a particular style of layout, what gives each style their particular ‘look’ and how these styles can be utilized by students to inspire them to ever greater levels of creative expression.

Introduction to Realistic Paper Style Layouts: This class will focus on how to create digital layouts that look as if they were created using real paper products.

Introduction to Magazine Graphic Style Layouts: This class will focus on how to create layouts that 'look as if they came out of a magazine.'

Introduction to Photo Montage and Blended Layouts: If you like the look of manipulated photos and want to learn how to create distinctly 'digital' scrapbook layouts this is the class for you. (This is a program-specific class. We offer one for those using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements and a different class for those using Paint Shop Pro)

Introduction to Dynamic Space layouts: Space is one of the most powerful and effective design elements layout artist have to use. This class will teach you how to utilize space in new and inspiring ways.

Introduction to Freestyle Layouts: Freestyle layouts are on the cutting edge of scrap-booking trends. Learn what it is that makes a layout 'freestyle' and how you can incorporate these elements into your own layouts.

Introduction to Art Journal & Collage Layouts: Borrowing from the world of mixed-media art, art journaling and collage layouts have now gone digital. Learn how to create incorporate these avant-garde elements into your own digital designs.

Introduction to Eclectic Style Layouts: It's a little bit 'paper' it's a little bit graphic but it all adds up to innovative and inspiring design. Learn how to mix and match paper-style elements with graphic techniques to create one of a kind layouts.
